10 PAGES YOUR CHARITY WEBSITE MUST HAVE
So you might be wondering what exactly your website needs as a charity? Well there are lots of features that we need as charities. Compliance items like Userway for ADA and Equity Statements but what about the actual meat and bones?
Let’s walk thru the MUST HAVE pages EVERY charity website needs to have on their website.
#1
Home Page
I mean, this is a given right? This is your main first look, your introduction to your visitor.
Make sure your home page is well laid out by stating your cause problem, solution, even some stats, and a quick and easy way for them to DONATE right there.
#2
About Page
Visitors will want to know who you are and what you do. Put all of this on your about page. Put your board, your supporters etc on all here.
This is also a great place to put all of your lengthly and formal statements like your mission and vision. Dont junk up your home page with these items.
#3
Events Page
Put your ways to be apart of your magic on the events page. Make sure to link ticketing or better yet, embed ticketing options!
Even if you do not have lots of annual events you should still have a way for others to throw an event on your behalf! Donorbox makes “Peer to Peer” easy and simple!
#4
Contact Page
Nonprofits sometimes shy away from a contact page because they are afraid they will have to field numerous calls and inquiries. Yes, often people go to the contact page without fully investigating your website, but it allows you to engage them on a personal level.
You can also use the contact page to also explain some FAQs to help filter those reactionary contacts points.
#5
Blog/ Journal/ News Page
Letting visitors know what you are up to, your awareness bits or any other information about your cause is SUPER important. Make sure to keep this up to date and posting at minimum once a month!
#6
Impact Page
Probably one of the most important pieces of the website is your impact page. This is where you show off! Tell visitors how you have enacted change! Use graphs, stats… anything you can to show your purpose and true impact + WHY THEY SHOULD GIVE!
#7
Donate Page
Ok, now this is the most important on your site right?! Make sure to embed your giving forms and make it stupid easy to give. Utilize your donation form impact statements to reenforce the purpose of the funding.
#8
Programs/ Initiatives Page
Make it clear ways in which you help and the programing and structure around each of those initiatives. If these programs need volunteers, donations of goods etc, make it clear and put a form or way to contact for those services.
#9
Custom 404 Page
I mean, you know I already did a post on this… do a custom 404 page. Read about it here.
#10
Legal Page(s)
Make sure to put into writing your Terms of Use, Privacy and Cookie Policy. There are lots of templates online and I offer a free canned option for each of my websites BUT ALWAYS get an attorney to review any legal document.
