5 STUPID SIMPLE STEPS FOR YOUR NONPROFIT TO GET LISTED ON GOOGLE BUSINESS

Your Google Business Listing, or that awesome right sidebar with links to your website, to call and reviews, is ONE of the easiest and best ways to get noticed quickly online. It really doesn’t take that long and I can walk you thru the steps right now.

You could also be thinking that this sounds expensive… well it's not. It's FREE and super easy!

STEP 1 TO SET UP YOUR NONPROFIT’S GOOGLE BUSINESS PAGE

Log into your charity gmail account.

I recommend this is a nonprofit-wide admin-level account that can be accessed even if someone leaves. The account needs to be accessible by those who you want to have control over this listing. Updating it for holidays, closures, reviews, messages, and tracking is super important.

*Bonus if you use the same account to link your google ad grant.
*Bonus Bonus, if you use the same account to link your google search console account to submit your sitemap.
*Bonus Bonus Bonus, if you use the same account for your google analytics.

STEP 2 TO SET UP YOUR NONPROFIT’S GOOGLE BUSINESS PAGE

Go to Google & Set Up using their prompts

STEP 3 TO SET UP YOUR NONPROFIT’S GOOGLE BUSINESS PAGE

Follow the steps and complete registration.

If you can, be sure to add logos, images, and important information like hours, phone & website.

*It’s important to note, Google no longer requires you to share your physical address or have a brick-and-mortar location to have one of these spiffy listings. So if you are just starting out and still being a crusader for good while in a home office, you do not have to share your location.

STEP 4 TO SET UP YOUR NONPROFIT’S GOOGLE BUSINESS PAGE

Wait a few days

Google will send a postcard to the address you provided (make sure you gave a good one) with a verification code that will signify that YOU are YOU. When that postcard arrives, simply log back into your Google Business Listing using the same account you identified before. There will be an orange box around where you will need to input the code.

STEP 5 TO SET UP YOUR NONPROFIT’S GOOGLE BUSINESS PAGE

Do the Happy Dance! + Check back on the listing.

You did it! Congrats and well done! See wasn’t that easy and awesome!? Make sure to check back into the account in a day or so after to see if the verification has cleared. You might need to engage Google support to clear any issues. Also, make sure to maintain your listings information, reviews, messages, your hours and holidays.

So there you have it. It really is that easy.

If you wanted to know how to do those bonus items like linking the same google/gmail account to Google Search Console and setting up your Google Analytics Account, be sure to check back in the next few weeks.

If you want to know more about the Google Ad Grant, be sure to check this out and get in touch with my friends over at Nonprofit Megaphone.
